Webmail Security

Transport Layer Security (TLS) is a protocol that provides privacy and data integrity between two communicating applications and is the most widely deployed security protocol used today. TLS is used by Arvig Webmail in web browsers and third party mail clients, as they require data to be securely exchanged over the internet. The use of TLS ensures that a secure connection is made with the intended recipient through encryption and identity verification.

There are known vulnerabilities associated with older versions of TLS which allow adversaries to monitor/intercept traffic and decrypt secure transmissions. Arvig Webmail utilizes TLS 1.2 to provide an enhanced level of encryption to connect to Webmail services.

For example, the following browsers are known to be unable to use TLS 1.2. Update them to ensure uninterrupted access to Webmail.

  • Android 4.3 and earlier versions
  • Firefox version 5.0 and earlier versions
  • Apple Safari 6.0.4/OS X10.8.4 and earlier versions

This online tool will analyze your browser for TLS support and other vulnerabilities.
