Arvig Brings Faster Internet Options to Ada
Arvig, the area’s leading broadband provider, is finalizing a project to expand its network throughout rural Ada, Minn., utilizing the FCC’s Alternative Connect America Cost Model (A-CAM) program.
Last January, Arvig elected to accept approximately $21.5 million a year for the next 10 years from the FCC’s A-CAM program to reach residents in some of the hardest to serve areas in Minnesota. Arvig is among 182 companies receiving a total of $5.283 billion in support for rural broadband expansion to unserved and underserved areas of the United States.
“Over the course of the next 10 years we will work to systematically build out services to the most remote corners of our service areas, as identified by the FCC. Rural Ada was our first stop, and we’re pleased to be able to offer more speed to residents and businesses,” said David Arvig, Vice President/COO at Arvig.
In the spring of 2017, Arvig announced it would begin construction in rural parts of Ada, connecting more than 200 locations that were previously underserved. Now that construction of the mainline is complete, rural Ada residents are in the process of having fiber services installed.
In addition to the A-CAM project, Arvig also made an investment to concurrently upgrade its network within the city of Ada. The city was not A-CAM eligible due to the existing high-speed capabilities of the in-town network; however, Arvig wanted to bring a higher-quality broadband experience to the entire Ada area. Speeds up to 100Mbps are now available to city residents and businesses, depending on location, and businesses have the option to receive fiber internet services (construction required).
“The City of Ada is pleased that Arvig is able to provide fiber to commercial customers and higher speeds to residents,” said James Leiman, Ada City Administrator. “We appreciate Arvig’s efforts as they upgrade and update our digital capacity as Ada continues to modernize and encourage growth and development.”
Those in the Ada area who are interested in new services or speed upgrades can call Arvig’s Ada office at 218.784.5151 or visit the office at 13 E. Fourth Avenue. Arvig representatives are happy to discuss the service options available based on the customer’s location.
